John Perry

I joined Strathclyde Police in July 1977 and retired at the rank of Inspector in June 2009 having completed almost 32 years Police Service.

In 2003, I was seconded to the Recruiting Department at Jackton before being given a permanent post. I was responsible for establishing the full time Diversity Recruiting Team, which to this day is unique within the Scottish Police Service.

As part of this remit, developed the Police Standard Entrance Test (SET) Project after securing funding from the Scottish Government. The SET project was essentially a preparation course for candidates who wished to sit the SET. Outcomes and results were extremely good with an average of 90% of candidates passing the SET compared to the normal pass rate of 60%. In 2007, I was appointed Depute Head of Recruiting for Strathclyde Police.

I have an integral knowledge and understanding of every facet of the Strathclyde Police recruiting process with extensive experience of interviewing and dealing with candidates.

Debbie Bear

I graduated from Edinburgh University in 2003 with a Bachelor of
Education Degree and am registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. I currently work as a school teacher and part-time tutor for candidates wanting to pass the Standard Entrance Test (SET).

I was one of the tutors on the Pilot Scheme for the Police SET Project working in collaboration with Strathclyde Police. As a result,  I have now tutored 8 groups of candidates (over 100) via college night-classes and at the Force Training and Recruitment Centre at Jackton and also on a one-to-one basis.
